2022 E.O. Foster Memorial Lecture
Professor Jan van Turnhout, Emeritus Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands
Title – “In Eric Forster’s spirit, in pursuit of highly charged electret fibers for filter–media like face masks and open-cell electret foam for energy harvesting.”
Professor van Turnhout is a very eminent researcher in the area of dielectric phenomena, in particular the dielectric response of polymers. He is a leading expert in the field of dielectric spectroscopy and thermally stimulated discharge. For a long time, he worked on converting his fundamental research into practical applications, particularly the development of fibre electrets for
efficient electric air filters. This work has resulted in thirteen patents that led to the development of electret microphones and electret filters.
